What I’m Making on Repeat During Cold & Flu Season

Hi Reader,

I hope you’re having a great week so far!

If you’ve been around here for a while, you know I’m all about natural remedies and food and drinks that actually support your body, especially during the winter months.

Today, we’re talking brothy soups and wellness drinks, because I know we all need these, especially this time of year!

These recipes are full of immune-supporting ingredients like ginger, turmeric, garlic, onion, lemongrass, lemon, mushrooms, and vegetables, which can give your body a boost during cold and flu season. 🧄🍋🍄‍🟫🫚

Here's my go-to list:

🍋 Lemon Ginger Turmeric Shots

These are my favorites in winter for a quick, immune-supporting boost. Ginger and turmeric add warmth and spice, black pepper helps your body absorb the turmeric, and lemon brightens it all. I take a small shot in the morning or afternoon, and keep a batch in the fridge for the week. If you’ve never tried this kind of wellness shot before, be prepared! They’re sharp and spicy, but the lemon balances everything out.

Protein Hot Chocolate with Collagen

This 2-ingredient healthy hot chocolate is my go-to cozy drink at night! I make it with Vital Proteins chocolate collagen peptides, which adds protein to help keep me full and support my joints, skin, hair, and nails. And, it actually tastes really good!

🍗 Homemade Bone Broth

I always have a pot simmering on the stove (or in the Instant Pot) during the winter! It’s full of flavor from fresh (beef or chicken) bones, vegetables, garlic, and other aromatics. I sip it on its own or use it as the base for soups throughout the week. It’s gut-friendly, helps support your immune system, and is a great way to use veggie scraps and leftover bones: a simple, sustainable way to get the most out of your ingredients!

🧄 Roasted Garlic Miso Soup

This soup is warm, brothy, and full of umami from homemade dashi stock. Roasted garlic adds depth of flavor and contains compounds that support immunity. You can customize the soup by adding mushrooms, chicken, or noodles, and if you want extra garlic flavor (and an extra boost for your immune system), double up on the roasted garlic: it only makes the soup more delicious!

🍲 Chicken Manchow Soup

This is one of my favorite winter soups. It’s brothy, garlicky, and made with ginger, onion, fresh herbs, and spices. It warms you up without being too heavy, which makes it great for nights when you want soup but not something creamy!

🍜 Tom Yum Noodle Soup

This brothy soup is bright, tangy, and full of flavor! The combination of lime, lemongrass, Thai chili, and aromatics helps clear your sinuses and can feel especially satisfying when you’re fighting for your life with the winter sniffles. 😅 I use shrimp and tofu for protein, but you can swap for chicken or add extra veggies!

In addition to these recipes, there are so many tasty, healthy juices you can make. One of my favorite combinations is carrot, apple, ginger, and freshly squeezed orange juice. 🥕🍎🫚🍊
